Out of District Enrollment

The Charlottesville City School Division permits out-of-division families to apply for enrollment in Charlottesville City Schools by paying tuition. This offer applies to students in grades K-12.

Take a look!  Charlottesville is a community that values education, and the rich opportunities in our schools reflect that commitment. With an eye toward innovation in teaching and learning, Charlottesville City Schools infuse critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration in all areas of instruction. Elementary Spanish and project-based learning—both core components of our 2011-2017 CCS Strategic Plan—are engaging students and increasing the relevance of our curriculum. Each student in grades 6-12 was issued a tablet computer this year, which has transformed the learning experience inside and outside of school walls.

Our fine arts program is nationally recognized for excellence. The arts play an integral role in how we approach subjects such as science and math. The benefits of our academic and extracurricular programming can be seen in a number of ways: increasing levels of achievement in all areas of learning; students involved in community service and workplace activities; regional, state, and national awards, as well as acceptance of CHS graduates at top-level colleges and universities all over the world.

Charlottesville City Schools students have a reputation for success in our community and beyond. musicians and singers won three levels of championships for grades 5-12. The Charlottesville High School science club (known as BACON) was named Team of the Year at the Virginia Science Olympiad State Championship for bringing the most spirit, positivity, energy, and ingenuity to the event. Partnerships enrich our programs—Minds in Motion with the Richmond Ballet, the City Schoolyard Garden at Buford Middle School, CPR instruction with the Red Cross, and Rule of Law Day with the local bar association.

We encourage parents to learn more about our excellent educational system and the many outstanding programs we offer. If you are interested in enrolling your child in a City school, please contact the school office directly to arrange a visit and tour of the school to which you will be applying.
