Happenings at Clark

Content Night

n January, students and parents enjoyed dinner and special hands-on activities at Content Night.  The activities included Roman mosaics, Ooblick, State Walk, Egyptian cartouche, African drumming, and much more.

States of Matter

In December, members of the UVa Lead Chemistry Team demonstrated physical and chemical changes for our second grade as part of a unit on states of matter.

Sock Hop!

In November, students gathered with family and friends for a night of pizza and dancing at the Sock Hop.

Students also bid on fabulous prizes such as ipod shuffles, or lunch with a teacher, using tickets they earned in class.
Thank you to all who helped make it a night of fun!

Third Grade Explores Scientific Method

The Clark third grade used the scientific method as they explored what happens when Mentos or Coral Sand are added to Diet Pepsi.

Students made predictions about how many mentos or how much sand would make the explosion more powerful.
They recorded observations, and drew conclusions about what they observed.
We would like to thank volunteer Janet Arsenault for donating the her time and supplies to encourage scientific thinking!

Fall into Reading Night

On the evening of October 18th, the forecast called for clouds with a chance of meatballs and Clark families and staff braved the weather together!

Students listened to the classic story, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, while their parents observed good read aloud strategies demonstrated by the classroom teachers.
Then everyone enjoyed a delicious meal of, what else, spaghetti and meatballs!
To wrap up the night, students and their families watched the film adapted from the book, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and enjoyed popcorn.

Each child was sent home with a copy of the book to enjoy at their home again and again!

Drawing Club Visits the Charlottesville Mural Project

The Clark Drawing club took a special trip to the new mural at the IX building, downtown Charlottesville.

The students met artist, Avery Lawrence and helped paint a second coat on the mural.
It was a fantastic experience.
