Burnley-Moran Elementary

Nestled in a City neighborhood convenient to the historic downtown mall, Burnley-Moran Elementary School has a mission to nurture the academic and social potential of each student. With ongoing involvement of parents, volunteers, and community partners, the school provides an engaging and challenging learning environment.

Burnley-Moran has received the Virginia Board of Education‘s VIP Excellence Award winner for four consecutive years. To ensure children experience all aspects of learning and development, fine arts and physical education are an integral part of the curriculum. Integration of technology into the school curriculum supports and encourages hands-on activities focusing on 21st Century Learning.

Burnley-Moran is on the cutting edge with the use and integration of technology. Our students use Kindles in literature circles, Smartpens during writing, Wiis for physical activity, iTouch for speech development and iPods to improve home-school connection. All classrooms have SMART boards for interactive lessons. In addition, teachers and students have access to digital cameras, digital video cameras, Flip cameras, document camera, iPods, and computer carts.

Burnley-Moran is proud to have a Student Council Association (SCA). The SCA plays an important role in representing the students‘ voice in school matters. In addition, the SCA adopts special projects during the year. These experiences encourage and support collaboration, critical thinking, and community involvement.

The BME Parent/Teacher Organization is strong. We work together to provide unique opportunities for all students and families including Back to School Night, Multicultural Night, Spring Fling, Sock Hop Kid Pan Alley, Reading and Math Nights, and Field Day. One of our main goals is to support the whole child through academics, self-awareness, and acknowledging the importance of community.

Parent involvement is important to us at Burnley-Moran. Everyone gains if home and school work together to promote high achievement for children. Parents play an extremely important role as their child‘s first teacher. Because of this importance, we have an open door policy that welcomes parents, guardians and family members at all times.
