Registration Process

First time test takers must register in person at the Adult Learning Center (or other approved satellite site) at least 7 days before the test. At registration, you must:

  • Show current Goverment issued photo ID (drivers license, passport, DMV ID, etc.), with name, signature, and date of birth.
  • Bring payment in the form of a money order made out to Charlottesville City Schools, or exact amount in cash, or a voucher if you passed the Official Practice Test (OPT). Payment is $58 for full test (first time); $8 first time testing fee (single test), or $10 per test.

If you have an email account, you may pre-register at www.GED123.org. Print out your Proof of Registration and bring it with you to your in-person registration.

Official GED Practice Test (OPT)

The OPT is a great way to see how prepared you are to take the actual GED test. It will help you become more comfortable with the structure of the GED test, types of test questions, calculators, and time limits.

Free Official GED Practice Tests are administered two Saturdays a month, 8:30am - 1:00pm. Upcoming dates are:

January 14, at the Adult Learning Center
January 28, First Baptist Church on W. Main
February 11, Adult Learning Center
February 25, First Baptist Church
March 10, Adult Learning Center
March 24, First Baptist Church

To register for the OPT or to schedule an appointment if unable to come on one of the above dates, call Kathy Garrou at 245-2816.

If you get 450 score on each of the five tests on the Official Practice Test (OPT), you will receive a $50 voucher and pay only $8 to take a full GED exam!
