REMINDER: Tdap Shots Required for Sixth Graders
ALL sixth grade students in Virginia are required to have a Tdap booster (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) shot before entering the sixth grade. Virginia law requires parents to provide written documentation of the Tdap booster shot to the school before school starts.
All 6th grade students must have a booster shot prior to entering 6th grade if at least five years have passed since their last shot. There are religious and medical exceptions to this requirement, but there must be documentation provided to the school to that effect. Even if your child has had the shot, school staff must have written documentation on file before she/he begins the school year. Students may receive a free Tdap booster shot at the local Health Department on Rose Hill Drive.
If the school does not have documentation, per state law, your child cannot begin the school year. If you have questions, please call the school.
ALSO: Kindergarten registration is open for all students. Visit the school this summer to register in advance!
