Voluntary H1N1 Vaccinations for Students and Employees
The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends vaccination to prevent spread of the H1N1 influenza virus (formerly known as swine flu). To help faciliate vaccinations in our community, Charlottesville City Schools has partnered with the Charlottesville/Albemarle health department to offer 2009 H1N1 school-based vaccination clinics to students and employees.
Vaccinations will be voluntary. H1N1 flu vaccines are available to CCS students and employees at school-based clinics at no cost. Parents or guardians who wish to have their child receive the 2009 H1N1 vaccine will need to return a signed consent form. Students without signed consent forms will not receive the vaccine.
Children aged ten years and older require one dose of the vaccine. Two doses, spaced four weeks apart, are recommended for children nine and younger. Follow-up clinics for younger children are scheduled.
The seasonal flu vaccine is a separate vaccine and will not be offered to students at the school-based clinics. We encourage parents and guardians to make arrangements with their health care provider if they wish to have their child vaccinated for seasonal flu.
