Charlottesville High School Academic Quiz Bowl Captures Virginia High School League’s AA State Title
The Charlottesville High School academic quiz bowl team captured the Virginia High School League’s AA state title on February 25, 2006 in Williamsburg, VA on the campus of the College of William and Mary. The team went undefeated this season in district and state competition, defeating Blacksburg High School in the state finals. This is the second year in a row that the CHS team has captured the state title. Team members competing in the state competition were Captain Rosalie Ray, seniors Paul Wiley, Gavin Baum, and Adam Supraner, sophomore Kai Tao, and freshman Sam Bailey. Coaches for the team are Patricia Vandever and Chad Prather.
Coach Patricia Vandever states, “It has been so exciting to work with this group of students. Every day we learn something new from them and their curiosity and love of learning is contagious. They exhibit all of the characteristics common to any great athlete: determination, the will to succeed, and a strong sense of fair play.”
