UPDATE on the Superintendent Search Process for Charlottesville City Schools

The search for the Charlottesville Superintendent continues, and at the close of the application period on December 30, 2005, there were 61 applicants. The applicants are from 22 states with the largest concentration coming from Virginia and other southeastern states. Nineteen of the applicants reside in Virginia with others from as far north as North Dakota; as far east as Massachusetts; as far west as Washington state and as far south as Texas and Florida.

Eighteen of the applicants are current superintendents, 21 are deputy or assistant superintendents, 7 are building principals and the others are directors, professors and educational consultants.

The gender representation of the applicants is 74% male and 26% female. There was no attempt to identify applicants by racial and/or ethnic background.

Screening and vetting of the applicants has begun and will conclude by the eighth of January.  A preliminary report of the five or six candidates that best fit the profile for the Charlottesville superintendent will be presented to the school board in executive session on January 9, 2006.
