Meet Rosa Atkins
Newly Appointed Superintendent of Charlottesville City Schools

Mrs. Rosa AtkinsCurrent position:
- Caroline County, Virginia
- Assistant Superintendent
supervises numerous departments in this 4,000 student district including, Instruction, Special Education and Human Resources.
Past Experience:
- City of Richmond
- Assistant Superintendent:
developed instructional programs which increased number of schools meeting full state accreditation from 10 to 24 in one year, and to 40 in two years. - Henrico County
- Director of Leadership Development:
guided new principals in moving schools from low student performance to high levels of student achievement. - Elementary school principal, six years
- Assistant elementary school principal, three years
- Special education teacher, ten years
Other Awards and Distinctions
- Henrico County Instructional Leader of the Year in 1999
- Executive Program for Educational Leaders Fellow, Stanford University
- Educational Leadership and Ethics Conference at Oxford University
- Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in May of this year
