Career and Technical Education Department

At the middle and high school levels, the Career and Technical Education Program of the Charlottesville City Schools provides sequences of career-related courses and experiences designed to help students develop skills needed for entry-level employment, advanced technical training programs, and continuing education on the college and university level. Elective courses in the program areas of Business and Information Technology, Marketing Education, Technology Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Trade and Industrial Education, and Health and Medical Sciences focus on helping students develop twenty-first century job skills, such as proficiency in computer technology, information, acquisition and processing, problem solving, teamwork, and effective communication skills. Career and Technical Education courses are designed to enhance and support the academic curriculum - reinforcing the Standards of Learning established for English, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The Career and Technical Education program assists students in developing the academic and technical skills necessary for successful transition to post secondary education and work. We also seek to develop in our students a desire for lifelong learning in a global society.
