Reason for being on the School Board:

The School Board is a natural extension of my advocacy work on behalf of children in our community. I want to ensure that all members of our community have a voice in our school system, that teachers feel valued and are supported appropriately and that our children are getting the best possible education.

Personal information:

I grew up in Albemarle County, graduated from Western Albemarle, Piedmont Virginia Community College and the University of Virginia (in addition to American University's Washington College of Law in Washington D.C.). I work at Jones and Green, LLP a small civil litigation law firm downtown. I have three children, two are at Burnley Moran Elementary School. Joined the Board in July 2004

Reason for being on the School Board:

I feel a special connection to the Charlottesville School System, having gone all the way through the system myself (Greenbrier Elementary, Jefferson School for 6th grade, Walker Junior High, and CHS when the building was brand new). When my daughter enrolled in Greenbrier, my wife and I became very active in the PTO and ultimately served as co-presidents. My desire to be on the School Board grew out of these connections and the recognition that public education is critically important, not only to the success of individuals but also to the success and vitality of the community as a whole.

Personal information:

My "day" job is being an attorney representing clients in Charlottesville and central Virginia. I also serve on a number of other community boards and committees, including the Piedmont Housing Alliance, the Greenbrier Neighborhood Association, and the Rivanna Trails Foundation. I am married (Karen) and have a daughter (Molly) who is a 2010 graduate of CHS. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with family, playing basketball and tennis, hiking, camping, and canoeing.

Highlights of your time on the Board:

The most important thing I've been part of a as a Board member was hiring Dr. Atkins as our superintendent. I'm also proud of leading the charge on starting the three-year-old preschool program and helping it grow.

Reason for being on the School Board:

I've been an active school volunteer for the past nine years and have developed an appreciation for our schools' strengths and its challenges. I ran for School Board to continue contributing to our great schools from what I hope will be a larger platform, allowing me to help address bigger challenges affecting the entire school district.

Personal information:

I grew up attending Virginia public schools, came to Charlottesville to attend UVA in 1986 and decided to raise a family here, in large part, because of our great public schools. I am married to Jim and have three children who currently attend Walker and CHS.
